Fluorescence tools have shown to be highly valuable for precise diagnosis of caries and other lesions in dentistry. These instruments can even be used during treatment for a more preventive and minimally invasive treatment strategy. Fluorescence, a type of luminescence, absorbs light of shorter wavelength and re-emits it as longer-wavelength light. This changes the color, for example from blue to red.

Dental Biofilm, Dysbiosis & Disease – A Virtual Reality Animation Experience
It’s all about the biofilm. Over 700 different species are found in the human oral microbiome, growing, communicating and thriving in a complex, sticky biofilm community known as dental plaque. Dive into the biofilm with us as we explore the balance between the good and the bad bacteria.

Examinations done with Near UV (NUV) at 405nm light on surfaces where active biofilm or calculus is present, allows for identification and removal. Consequently, the visualization and elimination of active biofilm may be a key preventive method to restore the balance in the biofilm to prevent further development of disease.
